“Mazurka”, John Macfarlane. Scriabin opens with the Op.40 a new vision of the dance genre : a spiritual ritual.
The two last Mazurkas in Scriabin’s works:
No.1 : In Db major No.2 : In F# Major
Total renewal of the Mazurkas genre with those twos languid and poetic dances, that remember of Chopin nothing anymore but their grace.
The first is nonchalant and ambiguous, while the second is almost like a pre-jazz improvisation. Scriabin is in search of a new musical world, something that lies in a muffled agitation and intense meditation. From this period on, the pieces will slowly unfold a quest toward mystery.
